Boots and shoes take a beating—rain, heat, grit, fuel, and thousands of shifter taps. A little care keeps them protective, comfortable, and looking sharp. The right method depends on the outer shell material your boots or shoes are made of. Our range of motorcycle footwear is made with textile, leather or a combination of both and can contain a waterproof membranes like GORE-TEX or Hydratex. Use this article as a practical, step-by-step reference to keep your REV'IT! Footwear in great condition.
Golden rules (for all boots & shoes)
- Read the care instructions in the CE booklet first; follow those instructions over anything below
- Brush off loose dirt with a soft brush before cleaning after each use
- Close all dials, zips, snaps and hook-and-loops tabs
- Avoid the use of any (aggressive) solvents (they can weaken the materials used in your boots or shoes)
- Use specific care products for all materials used in the shoe/boot like suede, microfiber, leather, etc.
- After caring, dry slowly at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or any heat sources
Cleaning (hand only)
- Brush off dried mud and dirt with a soft brush or soft sponge after each use. Use a nubuck brush on nubuck parts to remove dirt.
- Wipe the outer shell with a barely damp microfiber cloth
- For heavier grime, use a small amount of our REV'IT! Care - Maintenance Leather Care Cleaner on a soft (!) damp sponge for the full grain leather parts only (NOT on suede/nubuck!) or a very little amount of our REV'IT! Care - Textile Wash for the textile parts of your boots/shoes. Work up light foam; do not saturate
- Wipe away residue with a clean damp cloth
- Pat dry with a towel
Drying
- Gently press your boots or shoes in between a towel to remove any access moist
- Air dry at room temperature
Conditioning
- For footwear that is fully leather or has leather parts:
- Apply a very thin film of our REV'IT! Care - Maintenance Leather Care Wax, working it in lightly with a microfiber cloth
- Wipe off/remove any excess product in a rounded motion, or warm up a cloth with body heat to soften the residue before cleaning. Over-conditioning can soften impact zones and attract dirt
Note: our REV'IT! Care - Maintenance Leather Care Wax creates a thin film which will act as a light water repellent as well (on leather parts of your boots or shoes)
- For non-leather footwear:
- To keep or restore the water repellent functionality (DWR) active, use our REV'IT! Care - Maintenance Textile Waterproofing Spray-on
- Apply a thin film on the textile material (NOT on any leather/protective parts!)
- Let the material air dry
- For footwear with a waterproof membrane (Hydratex or GORE-TEX):
- Respect the care and conditioning instructions as mentioned above. The waterproof membrane sits behind the outer shell material, and it is the outer shell that requires maintenance, not the membrane itself. The waterproof membrane can only function as expected with a properly cared for outer shell
Quick reference
